“We Care”... Of Baldwin County is a non-profit organization formed in November, 2005 to address the need of less fortunate individuals and families that require assistance with the repair or rebuilding of their permanent housing. The organization will also have fund raising activities necessary to supply and support services for other non-profit organizations, families or individuals the board of directors consider less-fortunate on a need by need basis.
History:
After Hurricane Katrina in September, 2005, a group of Baldwin County residents began distributing supplies to Gulfport, Mississippi at the St. James Baptist Church. After weeks of delivering goods, a relationship was formed by the Baldwin County crew with the church members. The Pastor explained how an elderly couple had damage to their home from the storm. With damage beyond repair, it was agreed upon to assist in building a new home. Donations from Baldwin and Mobile county sponsors began pouring in when people learned of this project. With generous donations and materials being supplied, the new home of the Robinson’s was being constructed. The home was complete with donated items such as granite counter tops, kitchen appliances, furniture and landscaping. The organization set a goal to complete the construction in seven days, solely due to the residents from Baldwin County taking time off from their own places of employment to work from day light to dark to make their first build a success. The construction, from demolition to completion was accomplished as planned within seven days. After this success, “We Care”... Of Baldwin County, a non-profit organization was created. As of December 20, 2008 a fifth house in Bay Minette, Alabama was completed, once again in seven days.
Our Future Plan:
Our Research Crew is in the process, with Church personnel in Baldwin (AL.), Mobile (AL.), and Hancock (MS.) Counties to identify more individuals in need. “We Care”... Of Baldwin County is not just focused on hurricane victims. We also will assist with victims of other unfortunate events such as fire, tornado, or flood.
We invite anyone interested in attending our meetings, joining one of our committees or donating towards helping others less fortunate or in need of services, to join our team. There is no fee to be a member, “just a desire and open heart to help others”.
If everyone does one small thing- it will eventually lead to something great.
